Standard A/C units available from any hardware or appliance store have lots of power but they are electronically limited so that they cannot go below 60 degrees F. This is because they would freeze up. Commercial refrigeration for walk in coolers combat freeze with increased surface area on the fins as well as fans. Instead the Cool bot technology uses multiple sensors, a heating element and programmed micro-controller to control your air conditioner in such a way that the unit can go below 60F and not freeze up. “brute-force” approach to cooling: lots of coolant (which is bad for the
environment), a big motor, a large surface area, and multiple fans
(which can dry out your vegetables and account for up to 60% of the cost

Here’s the crazy thing: That $3,500+ walk-in cooler compressor you see on a small 8′ x 8′ vegetable cooler may only put out 8,500 BTUs of cooling power! That’s fewer BTUs than you get from a $600 window air conditioner from Home Depot!
Why not just use an A/C unit then? First, they are
electronically limited so that they can’t go below 60° F. With some
electrical bravery and skill, you could snip, solder and bypass the
electrical controls so you could go lower. It will work better, but
still not very well as your ability to actually utilize that cooling
power drops drastically as you approach 60° F. This limitation at 60° F
vs. a traditional walk-in cooler refrigeration system is driven by the
lack of extra fans and surface area built into traditional walk-in
cooler compressor / condenser / evaporator units which dissipate the
cold without freezing up the fins of the unit.

CoolBot cannot give you 100% use of the

I set the cool bot for 40 degrees using a small LG air ...
simple to hook up works as advertised. The room I constructed for cooling venison is 3w by 8 L by 7H . I set the cool bot for 40 degrees using a small LG air conditioner. It is too warm in ct. in September to hang bow harvested deer outside, heat, and yellow jackets, the cool bot set at 40 degrees bottomed out at 43 which is great, you have to remember the sensor hangs at the half way height of the room so it is even cooler at the floor. Also if I caulk better with some low expansion foam every crack and cranny and maybe hang a curtain in the door way I can pick up another couple degrees of cooling. I used R32 fiberglass with insulating panels for the walls.I am very happy with the product it is worth the price of admission!
Oh yeah rite...with an air conditioner?!!...That's the skeptic in me...SOB the thing really and truly works..hats off to the guy who invented this thing..42 degree cooler temp in under 4 hours starting from 84 degree ambient temp.. Better than I expected :)
in the past 6 years, I have built 18 walk-ins, reach-ins, and one large enough to accommodate a forklift..have always used an LG AC( if that helps)..have never had a single complaint, nothing but flawless, maintenance-free operation..just spoke with the owner of the first project from 2009 and was told he loves it..has never touched the controls since I set them the day we started it up..his praise was mostly responsible for convincing the other owners to have theirs built
